A recent national survey revealed that the north east is the least comfortable region in the UK when it comes to discussing death. North easterners are also the least likely to want to know if they are dying and almost two-thirds of us haven’t discussed our end of life care plans.
If we aren’t thinking or talking about the care and support we would like to receive when the time comes, then we may not have our wishes met. We may also end up putting an unnecessary burden on relatives, friends or others who are trying to care for us.
